We do Occupational Therapy well

Our focus is on paediatric OT working with children and helping them to thrive in their own environment. We provide an atmosphere that is warm, caring and supportive where children and their parents feel at home and accepted. Building a trusting and strong relationship with each family is our primary goal because it is within a solid relationship between the parents, child and therapist, that a child will receive optimal therapy.

Our large, sensory-integrated practice is fully equipped to meet all needs, so every child can receive the best possible treatment while they are with us and grow in confidence as they overcome challenges. We also work closely with parents to equip them for home-based therapy to support and reinforce the work we do at the practice. Children deserve our very best effort to allow them to reach their full potential at every stage of their childhood and lives. We want to motivate each child to see their strengths and celebrate their progress.

The practice operates in some local preschools, supporting children whose parents are unable to bring them to the practice for therapy. Together with the teachers, we work as a team to give advice and input. The practice runs gross motor group sessions for the support classes at Westville Junior Primary School.

Services we offer

We provide occupational therapy.

We perform full standardised and formal assessments where required, but we are always aware of the fact that formalised testing can create high levels of anxiety in children and we prefer to engage in diagnostic therapy until they are comfortable enough to be assessed.

We love to work as a team, and we find that a collaborative approach often works best, especially if your child is having more than one therapy.

Our practice is a haven of fun and excitement. Children should look forward to therapy and we work hard to ensure that our environment is friendly, bright and inviting.

ABOUT KIRSTIN

I hold a BA Psychology from UNISA and a BA OT from UKZN.

I have worked in a variety of environments since qualifiying as an Occupational Therapist including Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital, the Children’s Assessment and Therapy Centre (Sherwood), various local schools, and now in Private Practice. These placements allowed me to assist with Clinic setups, to train community health workers, perform outpatient assessments and do outreach at schools all while offering therapy to help children thrive.

I have completed sensory integration training. I have successfully worked with a wide spectrum of disorders and conditions and have a depth of experience that allows me to confidently work with children of all backgrounds and abilities.

On a personal note I am lovingly married with 2 amazing children. I adore the outdoors, gardening, hiking and adventuring close to nature. As an extrovert entertaining is one of my favourite things to do because relationships are important. I am passionate about family and seeing the families of the children I work with thrive. My motto in life is ‘whatever you do, do it well’, and I carry this through in my personal life and in my work.

I want my practice to be exceptional because every child is exceptional and is made uniquely special and I want to honour that.

Testimonials

Kirsty is a caring and encouraging occupational therapist who made sessions fun and engaging for our son. Her personalised approach led to excellent progress, and her practical advice continues to support us every day.”

In grade one, we realised that my son required occupational therapy. We were referred to Mrs Kirstin Fleischer by my son’s teacher at Westville Junior Primary.

He looked forward to their weekly sessions and would entertain Mrs Fleischer with his news while they worked on his pencil grip and other fine motor issues. After a few weeks, Mrs Fleischer indicated that she would like to work with him at her practice due to his gross motor problems.

She has a fantastic set up at her practice which makes the session much fun (so much so that my other kids wanted to attend). Her practice is always clean and times are adhered to. Mrs Fleischer’s easy manner makes her approachable for both parents and kids. Feedback and reports (when required) are provided. She gave us sound advice regarding his progress which is much appreciated.

“My daughter absolutely loves her OT sessions with Kirsty. It’s something she genuinely looks forward to every week. As a parent, I’ve really appreciated how passionate and child-centred Kirsty is in everything she does. She always puts the child first, creates a warm and encouraging environment, and offers such thoughtful, practical guidance. We’re incredibly grateful for the positive impact she’s had.”

We as a family have had the most wonderful experience at Kirsty Fleischer OT. It all started in 2018 when we had had a very hard year trying to understand our sons behavior. Kirsty assessed James and then very professionally, clearly and kindly explain to us the road ahead. There were many light bulb moments for us and lots of tears for me.

Kirsty was both compassionate and encouraging putting strength in our bones. Kirsty is someone that we can trust, we have had the privilege of getting to a point in therapy where she feels we can go on our own for a bit and yet both my son and I can’t wait to come back and learn more with, and from, Kirsty. James loves her, she gets on his level and at the same time she sets the tone for the session with good boundaries.

Kirsty is very experienced and exceptional. She is full of wisdom and knows how to convey her knowledge to the parents, teachers and children in an achievable way. I don’t want to ever stop seeing her for OT as she has made such a difference in our lives.

Meisha

“Such a huge improvement. I can’t believe the change in Jack. I’ve found that he’s far easier to reason with, where before he would have a meltdown, now he no longer does.”

Michie Bumberry

We have worked with Kirstin Fleisher since July 2020. Kirstin has assisted us with occupational therapy for our daughter. From our very first interaction with her she has been incredibly organised and thorough. She always responds really quickly to queries or concerns and she is clear and caring in her communication with parents.

Our daughter has also been very comfortable with Kirstin from the outset and enjoys her OT sessions. The results also speak for themselves, the improvement has been consistent and cumulative and has resulted in building our little one’s confidence as well.

All of this makes Kirstin a brilliant OT, but it isn’t what sets her apart, her approach is! Kirstin genuinely cares about these little ones, she takes a huge amount of pride in her work and the joy she expresses when the children achieve is genuine and heartfelt. I am a firm believer in it taking a village to raise a child, and Kirstin is an invaluable part of our village.
